The Closer to My Dreams Tour skyrocketed into Chicago’s Congress Theater Sunday night with hopes of leaving an impressionable mark on a rambunctious crowd of spectators. Featuring performances from JRand, Jinsu, LoveRance, Sterling Simms, Kirko Bangz, and Tyga as the featured headliner, good fun and good music reigned supreme.

The energy was high as Interscope’s latest signee, JRand, kicked the show off with a performance of his viral hit, “Up Against the Wall.” Armed with a troupe of dancers, the Florida-native showed off his inventive dance moves before vocalizing his way through a rendition of Chris Brown’s “She Ain’t You.”

Newcomer Jinsu kept the party rocking with tracks from his latest mixtape, “The Triumph,” while LoveRance took the audience on a ride through the Bay Area in a chorus of his top-charting single, “Up!” Sterling Simms made hips sway to the sound of his voice, switching up the mood with his reggae-infused, “Tell Her Again,” while Kirko Bangz provided southern comfort with “Drank in My Cup,” as well as tracks from his latest mixtape, “ Procrastination Kills 4.”

Tension filled the room after Kirko exited stage left, signifying it was time for the main event. The arena went dark for a brief moment, with only a single red light illuminating the stage. Tyga appeared on the stage in a beam of yellow light, sending the audience into a frenzy.

The Last Kings captain didn’t waste any time, segueing into tracks from “Well Done 3” as well as “#BitchImTheShit,” before streamlining into his top-charting singles, “Faded” sans Lil Wayne and “Rack City.” Romancing his fans, he brought out Kirko Bangz for a performance of “Girls and Guitars,” before inviting a handful of women on stage for the finale performance of the increasingly popular, “Do My Dance.”

In the years The Closer to My Dreams Tour has been in existence, it has yet to stray from its reputation as a platform for the industry’s hottest artists to strut their stuff before skyrocketing to their musical destiny. While Tyga is a veteran of the all-popular tour, as history dictates, last night’s performance was truly for the fans.
