As the Kardashians geared up for the debut of Kim & Kourtney Take Miami on the E! network, the family was the target of a fake 911 call in California on Saturday evening.
According to Los Angeles County sheriff’s officials a person called 911 and reported a fake emergency at a former Malibu residence of the Kardashians. Police arrived only to find the residence completely empty.
Kim tweeted about the scare: “These prank calls are NOT funny. People can get arrested for this! I hope they find out [who] is behind this. It’s dangerous & not a joke!”
Sheriff’s spokesman Steve Whitmore said the TV stars may be the latest victims of “swatting,” a hoax intended to get officers, including specialized SWAT teams,
Reality TV mag reports:
“Swatting” is the newest fad. Individuals call 911 reporting a fake emergency in an effort to get SWAT and specialized law enforcement teams to respond to a fake emergency, taking officers away from other scenes and responsibilities. Sheriff’s officials and law enforcement are lobbying to make “Swatting” a felony.
The Kardashian family isn’t the only one to fall victim to this dangerous practice. Latest victims have included Tom Cruise, Justin Bieber, and Ashton Kutcher. These individuals are using sneaky technology to make it seem as if the call is coming from inside the homes of the celebrities.
