Joey Bada$$ is mourning the loss of his 22-year-old cousin, who was shot and killed in Brooklyn early Friday (Aug. 12) morning.
Terrell Henry was hit in the back and neck while walking to a deli to buy an Arizona iced tea at around 1:00 a.m., reports the New York Daily News.
After getting word of his cousin’s murder, the Brooklyn rapper shared a message on Instagram. “No words… Just a heavy heart,” he wrote Friday. “RIP to my cousin Terrell Henry smh… Through all the positivity there’s always a negative… truly devastated.”
A student at John Jay College of Criminal Justice, Terrell aspired to be an FBI agent, and had no criminal record.
His fraternal twin brother and a friend were nearby when they heard shots. “We turned around and saw somebody get shot and fall to the ground,” Derrell Henry told the Daily News. “But we didn’t realize who it was at the time.”
Upon walking towards the body, Darrell realized it was his brother. “I run to try and help him out and then a couple people in the area … called the cops for us,” he said.
Terrell later died at the Wyckoff Heights Medical Center. Authorities have not yet determined a motive for the shooting.
Dad, George Henry, says he put his sons in private school to keep them out of gangs. He believes the tragic shooting may be a case of mistaken identity.
