Three years ago, Irv Gotti broke the news that he’s planning a Murder Inc. television series that’ll explain the trajectory and controversy of his historic record label of the same name. In a 2016 interview with AXS, the music industry executive said the program “is going to change s**t…It’s coming out brilliant…” before adding that he’s executive producing the project alongside Paramount. “And it’s coming out, like, beyond my expectations.”
Now, Gotti is wrangling up supporters’ anticipation with a recent Instagram update. On Wednesday (Jan. 9), the Queens native posted a 2002 Source cover photo of himself surrounded by the label’s former artists including Ja Rule, Ashanti, Charli Baltimore, and Cadillac Tah with a caption that upped the ante for the series.
“Everything will be told. The good. The bad. Everything,” he wrote. “With my Murder Inc TV Series. I’m taking my time. Cause it has to be perfect. But for sure. It’s coming!!”
The record label boasts the success of the aforementioned artists but also provided a platform for other rappers and singers to reach a new plateau like Black Child, Vita, Lloyd, and at one point, Vanessa Carlton. In recent times, Gotti also mentioned that Nas nearly signed to Murder Inc.
“It would’ve been huge. Let me explain exactly why, because Nas embodies what Ja Rule did not embody,” Gotti said during a podcast episode of “Drink Champs.” “Ja Rule, [critics accused him of making pop records for women]. So we didn’t have the foundation with ni**as!” Maybe this will be one of the many storylines detailed in the forthcoming show.
