Sorority Sisters is looking like a lose-lose situation for all parties involved. Ever since the VH1’s latest controversial show aired last December, they’ve been hit with what seems like an ongoing flow of opposition. First, members of the four sororities represented—Delta Sigma Theta, Alpha Kappa Alpha, Zeta Phi Beta and Sigma Gamma Rho—as well as other Black Greek-Letter Organizations protested the production of the show, but VH1 pressed on with it. When it finally aired, there was so much backlash online that one-by-one, advertisers pulled out of the show.
Things only got more extreme from there. Two members of Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, April McRae and Rwanda “Joy” Hammond, were suspended from their organization on Dec. 26, 2014. Delta Sigma Theta Sorority’s disciplinary actions against their members was harsher and more permanent.

Ironically on the sorority’s Founders’ Day (Jan. 13), Delta Sigma Theta expelled the five members on Sorority Sisters. Lydia Mitchell, Priyanka Banks, MeToya Monroe, Adrene Ashford and Shanna McCormick are now prohibited from wearing/using any paraphernalia that references the sorority as well as attending events and participating in any events that indicate membership in the sorority. Yikes. Was the short-lived fame worth it?
