Charmayne Maxwell, a founding member of the pivotal 90s R&B group Brownstone, was found dead in her Los Angeles, Calif. home Saturday (Feb. 28), TMZ reports.
According to police reports, the “All I Do” singer returned home after her son’s soccer game, but around 9 p.m. upon her husband’s arrival to their house, he found Maxwell unconscious with a wound to her neck. Authorities said the cause for the fatal gash stemmed from her fall on a broken wine glass, but no confirmation on foul play has been made.
The 46-year-old vocalist, affectionately known as Maxee, died on her way to Cedars Sinai Hospital due to a dire amount of blood loss. Maxwell’s musical legacy with Brownstone includes the 1995 Grammy nominated track “If You Love Me,” and their debut album, From The Bottom Up, spent 37 weeks on the Billboard charts.
Brandon Maxwell, Charmayne’s brother, later tweeted. “R.I.P my beautiful sister Charmayne ‘Maxee’ Maxwell — I can’t even believe I’m typing this right now.. Bad things happened to the most innocent people. My sister died in the most terrible way, and I’m in so much pain right now.”
